Supported sensors in Aether

1. Description

Aether supports a wide range of sensors (RGB, Multispectral, Thermal, LiDAR, etc.) for various applications, including photogrammetry processing, LiDAR classification, analytics computing, and visualization.

This article provides details on all supported sensors.

Info

If you are planning to use a sensor not listed below, please contact Alteia Support Team before starting any process to get information about compatibility and settings.

For more information about data collection recommendations see the following article: Drone Flight Parameters‍

2. Sensors for photogrammetry

Please see below for a list of compatible sensors for photogrammetry. Some upload and photogrammetry processing recommendations may be provided depending on the sensor.

Images can either be georeferenced, with coordinates included in their metadata, or non-georeferenced but accompanied by a CSV file containing the corresponding coordinates.

For more details about photogrammetry computation in the Aether platform, please see these articles:

Info

The resolution of images taken by some sensors (e.g. DJI P1) can result in large amounts of data (gpix) to be uploaded and processed. Please take this into account before the data collection and processing the data.

Info

For Multispectral Photogrammetry, calibration targets are highly recommended. Take pictures of the calibration target BEFORE and AFTER the flight.

If available, the panchromatic band will be used for calibration, but it will not be processed in the reflectance map.

2.3. Sensors for Thermal photogrammetry

For the following sensors, a thermal map is produced.

Brand UAV model Sensor Photogrammetry recommandations
DJI Matrice 300 / 350 RTK Zenmuse H20T Use Metashape photogrammetry engine.

3. Other types of sensors

3.1. LiDAR & Laser Scanners

Aether supports .las Point Clouds to standards 1.2 & 1.4, obtained from airborne LiDARs or ground-based laser scanners raw data.

3.2. Hyperspectral Data

Hyperspectral (ENVI Format) datasets are supported.

3.3. Handheld & Ground Sensors

Aether also supports RGB georeferenced datasets obtained from land-based and handheld devices, such as DSLR cameras or smartphones.

Adding single or several pictures from the ground to an existing project (in its annotations) is also possible as a fieldwork reporting task (through the Alteia infield mobile app for example)
